How to Pair a Lightspeed Classroom Microphone (Clearmike/Flexmike)

Summary

Use these steps if your microphone has lost its connection, if you are setting up a replacement microphone, or if the Mic 1 or Mic 2 indicator lights on your base station are flashing or unlit.

Note: Lightspeed microphones are sometimes referred to interchangeably by staff as "Clearmikes" or "Flexmikes" depending on the hardware generation installed in the room. The pairing process remains identical for both models.

Before You Begin

To ensure the pairing sequence succeeds, verify the following conditions before you begin:

  • Disconnect from Power: The microphone must be completely removed from its charging cradle or charging cable. It will not enter pairing mode while charging.
  • Base Station Powered On: Ensure the main classroom audio base station (the speaker column on the wall, the ceiling panel, or the desktop media hub) is plugged in and powered ON.
  • Identify the Channel: Determine if you are pairing this as the primary microphone (Mic 1) or the secondary microphone (Mic 2).

Steps

You must be inside the classroom and standing within 1 to 2 feet of the audio base station to complete these steps.

  1. Power Off the Microphone: If the microphone is currently turned on, press and hold its Power button until the status light goes completely dark.

  2. Trigger Base Station Pairing Mode: Locate the small button labeled Registration or Pairing on your main classroom audio base station (typically found on the back, side panel, or bottom edge of the unit). Press and hold this button for approximately 3 seconds. Release it when the Mic 1 and Mic 2 status lights on the base unit begin to blink sequentially.

  3. Initiate Microphone Link: Hold the powered-off microphone about 1 to 2 feet away from the base unit. Press and hold the microphone's Power button continuously for 5 full seconds. Do not let go of the button until you see the status lights on the microphone and the corresponding Mic 1 / Mic 2 light on the base station flash rapidly together.

  4. Verify the Connection: Release the button. The flashing lights on both pieces of hardware will turn into a solid, steady blue or green light. Speak into the microphone to confirm your voice plays clearly through the classroom speaker system.

Expected Outcome

The microphone connects to the base station and plays audio clearly through the classroom speaker system.

Common Issues

Issue: The microphone lights keep flashing and never turn solid

  • Resolution: The pairing sequence timed out. This usually happens if the microphone is too far away from the base station during Step 3, or if the microphone battery is critically low. Place the microphone on the charger for 15 minutes, bring it right next to the base unit, and try again.

Issue: Pairing drops out when walking to the back of the room

  • Resolution: This points to room interference or a degraded sensor/antenna. If the microphone pairs up close but loses its line-of-sight audio tracking at a distance, please log a hardware support ticket with the Help Desk so a technician can inspect the room's sensor loop.

Issue: Adding a second microphone overwrites the first one

  • Resolution: The base station automatically assigns channels. If you are trying to add a secondary microphone (like a hand-held "Sharemike" for students), make sure the primary teacher microphone is turned ON and actively connected while you perform the pairing sequence on the second mic. This forces the base station to occupy the open Mic 2 slot rather than overwriting Mic 1.
