ChromeOS - Update Chromebook Operating System

Summary

This article explains how to update a Chromebook to the latest version of ChromeOS. These instructions apply to all Chromebooks used by staff and students.

Before You Begin

  • A Chromebook connected to the internet
  • An active school account and password to sign in

Steps

Sign In to Your Chromebook

  1. Power on the Chromebook.
  2. Sign in using your school email address and password.
     

Open Quick Settings

  1. Click the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen to open the Quick Settings menu.

Open Settings

  1. Open Settings by clicking on theGrey settings icon with a gear in the middle.icon.

Navigate to About Chrome OS

  1. In the Settings window, scroll to the bottom of the left navigation pane.
  2. Click About ChromeOS.

Check for Updates

  1. In the center of the screen, click Check for Updates.
  2. If an update is available, the Chromebook will automatically download and install it.

Restart the Chromebook​​​​​​​

  1. Once the update has finished downloading, click Restart when prompted.
  2. The Chromebook will restart and complete the installation.

Expected Outcome

Your Chromebook will be updated to the latest available version of ChromeOS.
