Clearing Browser Cache

Cache is a way browsers, like Google Chrome or Firefox, store website files to help pages load faster. These files can become outdated or corrupted and may need to be cleared.

Clearing the cache may resolve a variety of issues, such as websites displaying incorrectly, failing to load, or showing old information. It should be used as a general troubleshooting step when experiencing issues on websites.

Find your browser below and follow the steps to clear the cache.

Quick Method

In Chrome, Edge, or Firefox:

  1. Open a new tab in your browser.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete on your keyboard.
  3. Select All time or Everything as the time range. You may need to expand More options to see this setting.
  4. Select the cache option:
    • Chrome or Edge: Cached images and files
    • Firefox: Temporary cached files and pages
  5. Click the Delete or Clear button in the bottom right.
  6. Close and reopen the browser.
  7. Return to the website giving you issues and try again.

Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Select the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Delete browsing data.
  4. Set Time range to All time.
  5. Select Cached images and files.
  6. Clear other checkboxes unless you also intend to remove that information.
  7. Select Delete data.
  8. Close and reopen Chrome.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Select the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Privacy, search, and services.
  5. Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear.
  6. Set Time range to All time.
  7. Select Cached images and files.
  8. Clear other checkboxes unless you also intend to remove that information.
  9. Select Clear now.
  10. Close and reopen Edge.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Select the three horizontal lines in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Privacy & Security.
  5. Locate the Browsing Data or Cookies and Site Data section.
  6. Select Clear Data or Clear browsing data.
  7. Set When to Everything.
  8. Select Temporary cached files and pages.
  9. Clear other checkboxes unless you also intend to remove that information.
  10. Select Clear.
  11. Close and reopen Firefox.

If the Problem Continues

After clearing the cache:

  1. Confirm that all browser windows were closed and reopened.
  2. Try reloading the webpage by pressing Ctrl + F5.
  3. Try opening the website in a private or incognito window.
