Mitel Desk Phones - Manage Speed Dial Buttons

Summary

Before You Begin

Ensure you know your voice mailbox passcode before starting the configuration process.

Steps

Create or Edit a Speed Dial Button

Follow this procedural sequence directly on your physical telephone keypad:

  1. In the phone console, press the physical Options button.
  2. When prompted on the screen, enter your Voicemail Passcode using the dial pad.
  3. Use the Arrow Keys around the central navigation pad to scroll down to the Program Buttons option.
  4. With Program Buttons highlighted on your display screen, press the Edit softkey (the dynamic button located directly underneath the display).
  5. Press the physical, unprogrammed button on the side of your phone console that you want to configure.
  6. Select Dial Number from the display menu, then enter the internal district extension (e.g., a 4-digit number) or the full external telephone number you wish to bind to the key.
  7. Type your preferred text label (e.g., Front Desk or Main Office) using the alphanumeric keypad, then press the Done softkey.
  8. The system will give you the option to program another key. If you are finished, press the Exit button twice to save all changes and return to the home screen.

Remove a Speed Dial Configuration

If a staff member changes roles or you no longer need an active speed dial shortcut, use these steps to wipe the key back to a default empty slate:

  1. Press the physical Options button.
  2. Enter your Voicemail Passcode.
  3. Use the Arrow Keys to scroll down and select Program Buttons, then press Edit.
  4. Press the specific programmable button on the side of your console that you want to wipe clean.
  5. Select Call Appearance from the on-screen configuration options. This action strips out the customized programming layer and reverts the key to standard line handling.
  6. Press the Exit button twice to return your phone to normal operational mode.

Expected Outcome

The selected programmable button functions as an active speed dial shortcut or returns to a standard line behavior.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Issue: "Incorrect Passcode" when opening the menu

  • Resolution: The telephone console references the exact same PIN used to access your voice mailbox messages. If you have forgotten your passcode or your account has locked up, please drop a request in the IT ticketing system so our network telecoms team can reset your PIN baseline.

Issue: The button doesn't do anything when pressed

  • Resolution: This usually occurs if you forgot to complete the save chain. Go back through the sequence in Section 1, ensuring you press Done after entering your label, followed by hitting Exit twice. If it still fails, check your dialing pattern:  external numbers may require a preceding routing digit (like dialing 9) depending on your specific building's configuration.
